A Few Tips for Choosing an Architect

ImageIt is imperative that you figure yourself out before finding out which architect they want. It must be understood that you are going to be the fundamental part of the team and the success of the team collectively depends upon you, the architect and the contractor who actually undertakes the project.

It is pivotal to appreciate the intricacy of what you are going to perform, along with the value of the individual who is going to direct you as well as your project through the course of development. You must make the decision whether you want to hire a person who will do whatever it takes to transform your visions into reality or whether you want a person who is dedicated to making a solid structure.

Chose the architect for your dream project. He is going to be the one person who would be most involved in the completion of this project and there is denying that.

The architect’s fee should not be taken as the determining aspect. You need to understand that the difference of cost between a higher priced architect to a lower priced one would not be more 2 to 3 percent of the overall project cost. However the difference between their final results may be priceless.
Customer experience surveys and recommendations should be taken with a pinch of salt. Building a house may take several years and this challenge requires multiple disciplined people. When things go smooth it is because everyone within the team has performed well. If things are rough and the sailing is not smooth it is due to several factors which may or may not have involved the architect role.

If one is interested in recommendations, it is always better to take the opinion of professionals attached to the act of building homes. Professionals such as contractors, building officials and suppliers can provide a much better insight of the architect’s value to your venture.
Experience matters a lot. The majority of architects with 10 years of expertise as a lead designer have only finished about 15 tasks of significant size, clear through from beginning to end. This should give a better understanding of the complexity of architecture designing.

You must be aware of the total number of projects the architect is undertaking at a current time. You need a good architect and not a salesman and if a person claims to have many projects going on simultaneously it basically means he is not the person who will design the building but he is only bargaining on behalf of some sub contractor.

It is a golden rule never to mix business with pleasure. Regardless of the kind of relationship you have with your architect, never let that hamper your decision making abilities and keep this relationship on a professional level.
Life is really short so it is important to pick an architect who has a realizes the importance of the task he is taking and works for you in a urgent manner. This will enable you to enjoy more at the house of your dreams

These ideas should be taken wholly and are not distributed according to their rank. They should provide you with solid understanding of the facts which distinguishes architects from one another, and how to discover the one who is right for you.

Simple & Sleek Living Room Design

ImageThere’s something about this room that takes me back to the first time I watched 2001 Space Odyssey. It does have that kind of look about it; the kind of look people tried to recreate in higher end homes in the Seventies, then again in movies such as Blade Runner (save a few footprints and used drug needles) in the eighties. For me this looks extremely sleek and stylish – the kind of thing I would expect to find in the lobby of NASA or something like that.

The television is beautifully mounted, hugging the wall very tight, though personally I would liked to see them recess this and build the TV in. This opens up options for overlays and makes the television a less dominant feature in the room overall. Not that I don’t love television, of course I do – I just don’t want it to get in the way of my interior design for a particular room. Integration into mirrors (whether the screen is built in behind the mirror when manufactured, or you apply a mirror overlay kit yourself to a TV you already own) or an above-fireplace format… I know what you’re thinking – this can be a big safety concern. And I would agree; it CAN be. This idea that’s being pitched that you absolutely cannot mount a TV over a fireplace is not true – you just need a setup that is safe and allows the TV and fireplace not to affect one another.

With that in mind, a bio alcohol fireplace would look beautiful in this layout. I prefer these to the traditional wood or coal burning fires, as much for my ecological concerns as my design preferences.

What do you guys think about this room?

Wooden Tone Palette

I love the variety of colors wood can produce in nature. I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to explore some beautiful countries, and I’m always amazed when I see yet another species of tree I’ve not come across before. Take a closer look at local artisans (ideally visit some carpenters, but you can get some insights from local craft stores too) and you’ll get to see a further spectrum of tones in the grain of the wood. Something about these often subtly different shades really gives me a sense of warmth and comfort, and I imagine this natural palette of colors would be ideally suited to decorate a log cabin, a ski resort lounge, a rustic kitchen… anywhere you want that sense of warmth.

It was this design that got me thinking about how different tones of wood could be applied subtly within a modern home design. I especially love the mixture of matt and gloss finishes, and how that plays with the light sources in and outside of the room.

And So It Begins…

Greetings from Amsterdam!

The city that adopted me as one of its own has certainly been good to me, and it continues to be a source of inspiration for my design and interior aspirations. For those of you who haven’t visited our city (or believe it’s just a place to find prostitutes, drugs, and prostitutes who sell drugs) I urge you to take a week to explore the wonders it has to offer, indoors and out.

I have told myself a thousand times before that I should take the first step towards working within interior design, but always felt that it was a dream too big for my capabilities. Every time I think that from now on, I will come to my blog, share something with the world, and feel a sense of renewed passion for design.

Thank you for visiting my blog – I hope I can provide you with a good reason to come back in future!
